Indianapolis interior design co. celebrates all things stylish with marriage of beauty & function.

Some of the hardest lessons for me to teach have been specifically in the area of choosing art for a client’s home. When I come into a space for the first time, if there is any art at all it is almost always what I like to call “hotel room art.” I know, I know. It’s pretty, the colors match the sofa and it’s sooo easy. What more do you want? If it ain’t broke, why fix it? Because we must people. Hear me out:

Of all of the elements of decor in your space, the most crucial part of pulling it together and making it uniquely you is incorporating art and photos that are meaningful to you. It is important to forget the millions of reproduction nature and city scape pieces we see over and over again.  Dig deeper to find images that speak something specific to you and add much needed personality to your home. When people come in and experience your space it should tell a story of who you are and what you’re about.  If it doesn’t do that, then what’s the point? Anyone can go into a lifeless, too-perfect model home or waiting room any time. Your home should be just that, a home. And one that is rich with character and filled with meaning.

“But Matt,” you tell me, “I like this print but it won’t match my throw pillows.” Don’t worry about it. The mix of elements adds character and dimension to your space.

“But Matt,” you tell me, “Fine art is for sophisticated serious people, not me, and it’s really expensive.” Now we get to my main point for today. This was a question I didn’t have the best answers for until I came across an invaluable resource I’d like to introduce: www.20×200.com. Much like my other favorite online friend, lonnymag, it is truly art for everyone. 20×200 makes art accessible to everyone primarily by showcasing prints from emerging talent. What does this mean for you and I? It means a library of 100s of images for sale always rotating with prints starting at an unbelievable $20 per piece. This is the best way I’ve come across to introduce my clients to the idea of really special and personalized art to make their homes sing a custom song. And with the prices as they are, you have room to be a little wreckless as you’re winding your way down this new and exciting road.

Never has there been a more appropriate time for me to say: “Don’t be scared!” Sit down with yourself or a loved one this evening and browse through the amazing online gallery at www.20×200.com. You’ll find a host of options from nature inspired landscapes, to graphic and very exciting one of a kind modern pieces. Look for the ones that make your heart beat a little faster and you’re well on your way. Break it down and let me know how it goes…
